Giselle Goldbach is a 15-year-old dancer from Milford, Connecticut. She dances at Milford Performing Arts Center.

“Dance unites people. Even if we cannot speak through verbal communication, we can most likely communicate through the movement of dance.”

How does dance have a positive impact on your life?

Dance has had a positive influence on my life because it has taught me more than just “steps.” It has given me self confidence and taught me about teamwork. Going to dance class gives me a safe place to share my passion with people that have the same interests as me. It has taught me how to be flexible in the literal sense but also as a person. Especially during the pandemic, we learned how to keep the sense of community going and how to continue to share our passion together via Zoom and other ways.

How do you want to use dance to be a positive influence on your community?

I want to use dance to inspire people to overcome any obstacles they may have. Dancers can face many challenges but find a way to overcome them, especially during the pandemic. If people see that it will inspire them to overcome their obstacles too. Dance unites people. Even if we cannot speak through verbal communication, we can most likely communicate through the movement of dance. Now, more than ever, we need to unite in our communities.
