Scarlett Thomas is a ten-year-old dancer from Saco, Maine. She dances at Dance Moves Maine.

“You don’t have to be a competitive dancer to experience the benefits of dance. If you have a bad day (or even a good one!), play a song and dance around your living room!”

How does dance have a positive impact on your life?

Through dance, I can really communicate my emotions. I cannot always put into words how I am feeling, but I am able to show my feelings through my movement and music choice. If I’ve had a bad day at school, I always feel better once I’ve had the chance to dance out all the emotions of the day. In addition to helping me express my emotions, I have made the most kind and supportive friends through dance. My dance friends and teachers are like family to me, and my dance studio is my home away from home.

How do you want to use dance to have a positive influence on your community?

Dance brings me so much joy and lifts my spirits. I want my community to know that dance can do the same for them! You don’t have to be a competitive dancer to experience the benefits of dance. If you’ve had a bad day (or even a good one!), play a song and dance around your living room! You will instantly feel better–I guarantee it.
