Ballet icon and inspirational queen Misty Copeland is releasing her second picture book this year! If you’re a ballet buff, a bookworm, and a bunhead, chances are you’re as excited as we are.

The book, Bunheads, is another story of ballet and finding the courage to achieve your dreams. Unlike her first picture book, Firebird, which told the story of “an every girl,” Bunheads tells the story of a young Misty Copeland’s first day of dance class and the achievements and obstacles that follow.

The book’s official description from Penguin Random House says, “Misty Copeland tells the story of a young Misty discovering her love for dance through the ballet of Coppélia. On her first day of class Misty is absolutely captivated by the narrative of the story and entranced by the dance. Nervous, yet excited, Misty decides to audition for one of the lead roles. As she prepares for the audition and, eventually, the performance, Misty learns to lean on her newfound friends for inspiration and rely on her own can-do spirit to dance her very best.”

The book’s page on Penguin also calls Bunheads “Misty’s exciting new picture book series,” so this could be the first of many young Misty adventures. We can’t wait to see more of the book’s story and illustrations. (Fingers crossed that Misty will tease more soon!) Bunheads will be available online and in bookstores on September 29, 2020.
