High School Musical and its sequels are Disney Channel classics. It’s hard to find someone that doesn’t have fond memories of Troy and Gabriella and the rest of the Wildcats. Now, more than 10 years after High School Musical 3 marked the end of those icons’ high school journeys, High School Musical is coming back–sort of. Disney is currently in production for a new TV show, High School Musical: The Series.

In the new show, some of Disney’s current stars will be taking on high school drama and musical theater as they prepare to put on their school’s production of High School Musical. So, if you were holding out hope that Disney would revive the franchise with a fourth movie, say goodbye to that dream. Hopefully, this will be the next best thing.

In their latest update about the show, Disney finally gave us a glimpse at the characters that will be singing reinterpreted versions of classic HSM songs and taking on some of the show’s new hits.

Right now, Joshua Bassett, Olivia Rodrigo, Kate Reinders, Sofia Wylie, Matt Cornett, Dara Renee, Julia Lester, Frankie Rodriguez, Larry Saperstein, and Mark St. Cyr will all be heading to school for all of the much-anticipated drama that will surely unfold.

Like many of their current projects, Disney is keeping a lot of the details about the show under wraps for now. While we don’t know what to expect from these new “Wildcats”, at least we can get nostalgic about our old ones! (It’s totally time to rewatch all the movies.)
