Have you ever chosen not to do something because of someone else’s opinions? Other people’s input is valuable, but knowing when to put it to use and when to follow your own ideas is important, too. Outside comments and opinions can help you grow, but you shouldn’t let them stand in the way of being yourself. Being your most authentic self is something no one should be able to take away from you.

Don’t Overthink Small Details

If you feel the need to get outside input for every small decision, you might be holding yourself back. What do you want to say in that text? Do you like that outfit? Ask yourself for advice first, so you don’t lose sight of your own opinions.

Don’t Accept Bad Advice

Everyone will have an opinion on the things you do, wear, or say, but be careful of whose words you choose to listen to. Have they been in your shoes? Do they have experiences or interests that show they are giving you the best, most genuine advice? You wouldn’t ask a friend who plays tennis for pirouette advice. It wouldn’t make sense! Look for valid, informed opinions.

Get to Know Yourself

Chance are, if you find yourself second-guessing your decisions or constantly seeking advice, you don’t trust your own ideas. Having a solid sense of self is one of the best ways to become your most authentic self. Get to know what makes you you! From your favorite color to the mottos you choose to live by, knowing who you are inside and out will make you more confident and successful. Set aside quiet time to connect with your inner thoughts and reflect on your own ideas.
