While you’re enjoying your summer adventures, back to school season has been creeping up on us. That’s right, we’re less than a month away from pencils, backpacks, and, of course, new clothes.

Or, well, maybe clothes that are new to you.

If you’re feeling thrifty this back to school season, now is the time to start stalking your favorite thrift stores for the perfect items for your wardrobe. Don’t worry. We have ideas for items that will complete those perfect first day looks.

Jeans

There’s a reason thrifting jeans is so popular. A good pair of jeans goes a long way, and when you’re at the thrift store, you can find all kinds of colors, cuts, and washes to add to your denim collect.

DIY Tip: Why not make your newly thrifted jeans even more unique with some art? Paint, patch, and even add lace to a pair of jeans to take that denim from drab to dreamy.

Flannels

Back to school season comes right alongside a quickly approaching fall. Don’t get caught chilly and unstylish! Thrift stores are the perfect home for all those soft flannels that work as outwear, accessories, and more.

DIY Tip: Don’t think you’re limited to the standard flannel styles you find in the thrift store. Tie-dye, bleach, and even distress them to make them even cuter for cool weather.

Interesting Bags

Looking at used bags in the thrift store might seem a bit intimidating, but not if you have a vision in mind. Your perfect bag or backpack could be waiting for you! Plus, you might just find something wacky enough for a new statement piece.

DIY Tip: Find a drab bag that has “good bones”? Bring it home and get busy adding patches, paint, and even embroidery to it to personalize your new bag.

Jackets

Retro puffy jackets, denim jackets, leather jackets. You want them all. Back to school shopping is all about finding the perfect layers, so don’t be afraid to dive into the jacket section.

DIY Tip: Cut up or distress denim jackets to add new features like tulle windows. Dress up a denim jacket with an iron on or even hand-painted back piece. You might even want to cut off the sleeves and replace them with something new if you’re feeling extra adventurous.
